WHAT IS ASTM STANDARD? THE ROLE OF ASTM STANDARD IN THE PRODUCTION OF BOLTS AND NUTS.

ASTM stands for the American Society for Testing and Materials, now known as ASTM International. It is a non-profit organization that develops and publishes technical standards for materials, products, systems, and services.
ASTM standards are internationally recognized and used worldwide to ensure the quality, safety, and consistency of materials, products, and services.
There are over 12,000 ASTM standards covering various fields such as materials, products, systems, and services.
ASTM standards are developed through a consensus process involving experts from various industries, government, academia, and consumers.
The important role of ASTM standards
ASTM standards are widely used in construction, metallurgy, petroleum, and consumer goods industries. New technologies like nanotechnology and biotechnology also adhere to these standards. Many countries have their own standards based on ASTM. The use of these standards is vital in global trade to build business credibility and ensure product quality in the international market. ASME also uses certain technical specifications from ASTM, denoted by prefixes and corresponding symbols, for example, ASME SA-962 and ASTM A962.
ASTM standard for the Fastener Industry
ASTM standards for the fastener industry are indicated by a unique symbol starting with a capital letter (A to H), followed by a sequence number of one to four digits, a dash, and the year of issuance.

Each letter corresponds to specific objects to which the ASTM standards apply, such as iron and steel (A), nonferrous metals (B), concrete and ceramics (C), miscellaneous materials (D), miscellaneous subjects (E), materials specific to applications (F), corrosion, deterioration, and failure of materials (G), and general standards (H). The letter "M" is added after the number to distinguish metric sizes.
ASTM standards for stainless steel and nonferrous metals
ASTM standards for carbon steel and alloy for bolts and nuts include standards like ASTM F 568M, ASTM A307, ASTM A449, ASTM F3125/F3125M Grade A325/A325M, ASTM F3125/F3125M Grade A490, ASTM A354, and ASTM A563/A563M. These standards define materials and specifications for various types of bolts and nuts made from special steels and alloys with different tensile strengths.

Note:
Psi, In units used for ASTM A325 and A490 standards
Mm, Mpa units used for ASTM A325M and A490M standards
Unit conversion: 1 In = 25.4mm; 1 Psi = 6.89 Mpa.
